It's no wonder this route in Colorado is called Golden Gate Canyon State Park. The aspens have just begun to glow gold mid-September. This time last year I was anticipating my second visit to see Steve and we had planned to drive to the mountains. So this weekend was somewhat reminiscent of that. This time, we didn't have only a few hours left together after though. This time, we packed sandwiches and ate them in at a picnic table near a stream and elderly couple.

It was incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating. The area is nearby two campgrounds: Reverend's Ridge and Aspen Meadows, which you have to book months in advance. But I bet it doesn't disappoint, just as a day trip here was a treat.
